T-Mobile Announces Latest Additions to myTouch Series

T-Mobile is adding two new handsets to its myTouch family, announcing the August arrival of a pair of inexpensive Android-powered, consumer-oriented smartphones.

The latest phones in the myTouch series will be manufactured by Hauwei, rather than HTC and LG like in years past. While the rumor mill had been churning for quite some time about these devices, T-Mobile finally confirmed whispers with an official unveiling this morning.

The T-Mobile myTouch and myTouch Q will feature identical specs, including a 4-inch WVGA display, 1.4GHz single-core processor and a 1,500mAh battery. Additionally, both phones are going to run Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) with a special customized user interface, and will offer 4GB of internal storage, with a microSD slot for expansion. Both will sport a 5 megapixel rear camera capable of taking 720p video and a 0.3MP front-facing shooter.

The myTouch Q will also feature a 4-row QWERTY keyboard, while both handsets will offer HSPA+ connectivity. In line with its predecessors, the myTouch and myTouch Q will each feature the Genius Button, a capacitive key underneath the display that sits next to the menu, home and back keys. The button allows for users to make calls, dictate texts, search the web and set up your navigation via voice dictation.

The myTouch and myTouch Q will hit stores August 8 and will hold an entry-level spot, with both models set to sell for $50, after a $50 mail-in rebate card. The myTouch will be available in black and dark red, while the myTouch Q will come in black and white.

For those who are feeling deja vu, these device have the exact same names as a pair of similar smartphones introduced by T-Mobile last year.

LG announces flagship Optimus LTE2 smartphone

While the whole world has been talking about the Samsung Galaxy S III and its groundbreaking specs, among other things, another Korean company, LG has announced its own flagship device. While it may not have generated the same amount of pre-launch excitement, LG wants the device itself to do the talking. Let’s have a look at the features and specifications of the LG Optimus LTE2. 

The Optimus LTE2

Starting off with the design and build, unlike the plastic overalls of the Galaxy S III, the Optimus LTE2 is made up of glass and metal. It comes with a TrueHD IPS display, the resolution hasn’t been revealed yet, but we’re hoping it’s 720p, keeping in mind the current competition. However, the most important spec that places the Optimus LTE2 apart from the competition is that it comes with a whopping 2GB of RAM, which is the first for any smartphone, including the now announced Samsung Galaxy S III. The other features that are included are wireless charging (backed by the Wireless Power Consortium), 4G LTE, a 2150 mAh battery and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The two main specs – the processor and the screen size – haven’t been mentioned yet, though. Keeping in mind the remaining specs, we can safely assume that the other two will be top of the line as well. 

Seeing how battery life is the one taking the beating due to the current specs of smartphones, LG has announced that this new smartphone, the Optimus LTE2 will have a battery life more optimized than 40 percent of existing smartphones. The camera will come with a voice recognition function that will enable faster snapping. Face unlocking will be present as well. 

Pricing and availability for the Indian sub-region hasn’t been announced, yet, but this smartphone will be available in Korea by the middle of this month.
